Rotary Seals

Rotary shaft seals, also known as oil seals or simmerings, are designed to seal rotating elements such as shafts or spindles in mechanical systems. Their primary role is to retain lubricants within the housing while preventing external contaminants—such as dust, water, and other fluids—from entering the system.

These seals are critical in protecting bearings and ensuring the proper function and longevity of components operating under rotational motion.

Material Options:

Rotary shaft seals are made from high-performance materials depending on the application:

• NBR (Nitrile Rubber): Excellent resistance to oil, fuel, and wear; ideal for general-purpose sealing

• FPM/FKM (Viton®): Superior resistance to heat, chemicals, and aging

• ACM, HNBR, and PTFE options – Available for demanding applications with high temperatures or aggressive media

The seal body may incorporate a metal insert for structural rigidity, and the sealing lip may include a spring for improved contact pressure against the shaft (e.g., with or without a garter spring).
